    Great video. I'm 50 now and, for the most part, have always been a very active person. I walk around 16,000 steps a day . Sometimes, I leave my car parked at my place of work and walk home . And then walk back the next day . I also have rode a bike since i was a kid, and i still do . I absolutely love riding my bikes . I love riding dirt trails, and sometimes i switch it up, and i cruise the beach and my local park . For my 51"st birthday, I'm planning on buying a road bike and riding south from Long Beach to san diego and spending the night in san diego and then head back home . I love how riding a bike makes me feel. It takes me back to when i was a kid 😊

    Great video! You capture the feeling of riding so perfectly! I retired three years ago to spend more time riding, because quite frankly, none of us knows how much sand remains in our hourglass. In that first summer of retirement, I took up credit card touring (bike packing without the camping), and the first trip I took was riding the Great Allegheny Passage from Point State Park in Pittsburgh. It was a great adventure, and your video brought back some really good memories. Thank you!

REALLY appreciate the insights and perspective. Rock, I love your Kona. I'd always wanted a Kona "Jake the Snake" cyclocross bike... LONG before there were "gravel" bikes. I'm 51 years old, and even in this day and age of widespread awareness of the importance of good mental and physical health, I still encounter people who think of the bicycle as "just a toy" and cycling as "child's play." Occasionally, I come across the elderly person who asks me, "aren't you too old to be playing around on a bicycle?" The fact that I do most of my riding on cutesy small-wheeled folding bikes that look like kids' bikes with their BMX-like wheels doesn't exactly help my case, either. 😅

I sold my motorcycles and now only ride my bike almost entirely off-road (WAY too many distracted drivers!). When I hear a bird I stop and use my Merlin app to see what it is. Nice landscape? Stop. Waterfall? Stop. Squirrel! I come back refreshed with more appreciation of my surroundings and a clearer mind. Riding alone never gets old. My ride can be as challenging or as adventurous as I want. I can adapt as I go with no one to answer to except myself. The feeling of discovery, whether in a far off place or around my local area brings indescribable joy.

    Brother, I'm proud of you. You did the best thing for yourself. Glad to see you wear a helmet, too. You're a role model to all of us. Much love to you and yours.

      I really appreciate that. You’re very kind. I don’t always wear a helmet when I’m outside the city. Particularly on the rail trails but I know I should. Ok, I will! Thanks for the advice 🙏 Good call.

    • @electricyellow613
      @electricyellow613 3 дня назад

      I advocate wearing helmets because there’s someone in our lives who needs and loves us. Last year was a bad year for me with a concussion from biking even with a helmet on. No need to scramble our brains. 😂 You’re important to someone in your life and make a difference to the world. The way the world is, it might not seem that way, but it’s the truth. Stay safe on those busy roads, buddy.

    The fact that I know you were going from the West shore to the East shore as soon as I saw the bridge makes me miss that ride.

      Yeah man. It’s such a cool ride. The bridges. The Susquehanna. Farm Show Complex. HACC. Veterans Park. The Capital. A lot of variety. Perhaps you’ll ride again! 😊 Thank you.

    what DID you do for food and water when you go on these trips?

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood 3 дня назад

      I have 2 water bottles. I’ll bring a rice ball sometimes. Mostly just gels. Some mixed nuts. I don’t ride crazy miles so I’m ok to go a few hours without. I like those Trader Joe espresso beans. They definitely give me energy.

    Awesome. I'm doing the same. I wanted a road bike because I live in the city. My kids love going on bike rides and outdoor activity. I realized how out of shape I was and wanted to get back in shape so I can do more with them. I'm losing weight, getting in shape. It's a 70's Peugeot that I'm tuning up little by little but overall it rides great. I've been loving it. Keep riding, I loved your video.

      Ah heck yeah! I’m so glad to hear that. Everyone knows the gym sucks. Boring. But people tend to forget about the bike. It’s like we’re not even trying it’s so much fun! Keep riding your classic and enjoy everyday. It’s in your name already! Happy! 😊

    This video definitely takes me make to my BMX rides on a single speed throughout Chicago. As a kid it felt like a gateway to independence...but some how we tend to lose our way and get shackled to the grind (aka the hamster wheels). I'm glad you found your way back home as did I!! Ride on brotha 🚴🏼‍♂️

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood 3 дня назад

      Bro! Single speed through Chicago must of been amazing. Spent some time there myself. That’s awesome. Indeed it’s easy to forget what made us so happy as a child. Then we realize we can actually do those same things. Yes, we have the weight of the world on us now but at least for a short while we may leave all that behind… and just ride! 😊 Thank you!
